NEW MEXICO FLY FISHING
New Mexico is one of the greatest states for fly fishing in the United States. Even though New Mexico might not get the same fly fishing recognition as states such as Montana and Colorado, the fishing and scenery that New Mexico has to offer is unmatched. New Mexico contains some of the most pristine fly fishing rivers in the country.

Most New Mexico fly fishing occurs in the northern part of the state, but that's not to say that there is not some tremendous fishing opportunities down south. The Gila Wilderness area is great for trout and smallmouth bass, and if it's striped bass you're after, there's no better place than Elephant Butte Reservoir.
My favorite fishing river in the whole world is the mighty San Juan. The San Juan River is New Mexico's most popular trout fishing stream.

Another of my favorite areas to go fly fishing in New Mexico is the beautiful Jemez Mountains. These mountains hold a number of small streams with abundant rainbow and brown trout. There are many awesome small streams in the mountains of northern New Mexico, but the Jemez Mountains are the closest to Albuquerque so that's where I fly fish the most.
